Ganis Vineyards

In the middle of Domokos, in the area of Vardali, you find our vineyards, under the Kassidiaris mountain range, and next to the castle of Ancient Prerna, which Strabo, the ancient geographer, includes in his chapter on the Kingdom of Phthia.

Around 1920, the Ganis family’s relationship with wine began, when Kostas Ganis planted his first small, bowl-shaped vineyard with local varieties. From then until 1940 he made wines that became famous in all the surrounding areas. In 1967, Konstantinos, his son, took over, planting, at an altitude of 160 meters, a small 1-hectare vineyard with local varieties.

In early 2004, Vaios, the fourth generation of Ganis winemakers, after doing research and consulting with expert agronomists, uprooted the old vineyard and replanted it with foreign and Greek noble varieties in regular rows. At the same time, the vineyard was expanded with new plantings on 2.3 hectares, at an altitude of 160 meters, and new cultivation methods were implemented to achieve better adaptation of the varieties to the area’s climate.

All these changes were carried out on a strict technical and scientific basis, after first acquiring full knowledge of the terroir and with respect for the special characteristics of the Greek vineyard, in order to obtain the best possible wine production.

Ganis Vineyards are organically managed and certified by DIO (Inspection and Certification Organization of Organic Products).
