Vriniotis Winery

The Vriniotis Winery, a family wine business, is located in the small village of Gialtra in northern Evia, 14 kilometers from Edipsos.

The family’s connection with vineyards and wine goes back to Konstantinos Vriniotis’ ancestors, who planted the first vineyards in the area and built the old stone winery.

Right next to the old stone press with the traditional underground fermentation vat, the new winery was built in 2008.

The new winery is built to harmonize with the local architecture of Edipsos, with traditional lines and soft colors. It is open to visitors year-round and has a tasting room where our guests can get to know our wines.

The high elevation of the winery offers panoramic views over the vineyards, northern Evia, the town of Edipsos and the Oreoi Strait leading to the Aegean.

The privately owned vineyard of 10 hectares spreads out around Gialtra and the foot of the Telethrio Mountains at an altitude of 200 to 450 meters. The vines on their slopes are the red Greek varieties of Vradiano, an old variety of northern Evia that has been lovingly revived by the Vriniotis Winery, and Evian Mavrokountoura, as well as cosmopolitan Syrah, alongside the white Greek varieties Assyrtiko, Malagousia, Aidani and Monemvassia.

The wider area of northern Evia is known for its therapeutic springs, the inactive volcano of Lihada, its Lihadonissia islands and its quality wines. Homer refers to the area in the Iliad as “rich in vines” (Homer, Iliad, Book 2, line 537).
