Bosinakis Winery

The family’s engagement with wine began in 1979, when Fotis Bosinakis and his wife Christina took over their parents’ wine distribution network.

Their love for wine and their homeland was so great that in 1992 they decided to create their own winery. The family winery was founded in the heart of Mantinia (Arcadia, Peloponnese) at an altitude of 660 meters, in the small village called Steno.

Along for the adventure were their children Sotiris, Katerina and later the youngest, Konstantinos. In the villages of Steno, Lithovounia and Agiorgitika of Arcadia, the advantage of the microclimate supports grapes more than any other region of Mantinia, where the main wine, Moschofilero, is produced. These particular vines, have a low yield (800-1,000 kilos per hectare) and have been carefully and personally selected by the Bosinakis family which is how the name was originated “Bosinakis wines of Mantinia, Protected Designation of Origin”.

When Sotiris and Katerina took over the family business in 2009, they knew that they wanted to devote themselves to revitalizing the particular local variety of Moschofilero. They sought to capitalize on the experience of their family and to focus on developing an outstanding wine using one of the most important indigenous Greek varieties. This wine was created based on the ideal combination of the variety and the terroir.

From the beginning, they placed great emphasis on excellent raw material and the unique characteristics of the variety. The lengthy extraction process they used for vinification process was to ensure the characteristics of the grape, such as the aroma and flavor, would best enhance the wine. Enriched by its delicious and aromatic flavor, the Moschofilero grape leaves a light pink tint to the wine. The gray-to-copper highlights you find in PDO Mantinia Bosinakis are a prime characteristic of their work.

In 2015 they experimented with an hour-long extraction of 100% Moschofilero from a single vineyard in the Spasolakas area, which resulted in the second label of the winery, Ieria (Priestess). This particular wine is a light rosé wine that departed from the aromatic characteristic of the grape, giving it a more earthy dimension, with soft tannins and a distinctly fuller palette.

The Bosinakis family is loyal to the Moschofilero and they aim to showcase the essential qualities while offering more than wine. They offer essence, companionship, and love.
