The winery was established in 2006 by the Tsiolas family. It takes its name – Ampeloeis – from the Ancient Greek word for ‘vineyard’. Our family’s aim is to create fine, quality wines.
To achieve this goal, we selected experienced and reliable partners under the guidance of internationally recognized French oenologist Noel Rabot, who has 40 years of experience in highly regarded foreign wineries. The well-trained staff of the company ensures that the winery operates optimally, starting from the raw material to the final product that reaches the consumer.
Ampeloeis Winery brought its first wines to market in 2008, when wine-lovers enthusiastically embraced the winery’s offerings. As a young and innovative company, we were the first in Greece to use glass stoppers instead of corks.
The passion and love of the Tsiolas family for quality wine has its home on 3 hectares in Folia of Nea Perasmos in Kavala. It is a magnificent location at the foot of Mount Symvolo, overlooking Mount Athos and the island of Thassos on one side and on the other the Pangaian Hills.
The winery is fully equipped with modern production facilities, aiming to bring out the quality and uniqueness of the wines. The privately owned vineyards of the Tsiolas family cover 5 hectares, with a planned expansion to 20 hectares. They are at an altitude of 400-500 meters and extend to the slopes of Mount Symvolo, where according to mythology, Dionysus, the god of wine and fertility, lived. The conditions prevailing in the area are best suited for cultivating quality vineyards since the coolness of the Strymonic Gulf benefits them while the mountain protects them from the cold winds. The soil is stony, barren and clayey with a slope that ensures maximum drainage.
The climate of the region is characterized as Mediterranean with mild winters and cool summers, ensuring maximum sunlight. Focusing on quality rather than quantity, the vineyards are cultivated according to the strict guidelines of experts who support the use of organic and modern methods to protect the fruit and the environment. Under their supervision are also the cooperating vineyards to ensure the same excellent quality in the vineyards.
